Skype for Business devices with Lync Phone Edition must be replaced

Last year the Lync Phone Edition software – as used on Polycom CX devices – went out of support. The Lync Phone Edition software does not support the current protocol used in security certificates (SHA2). This means that the CX devices will no longer function in combination with Universal Hosted Skype for Business (since the Hosted Skype for Business is based on SHA2 secure encryption).

In October 2018 Microsoft already announced that is was no longer possible to connect to Office 365 services from Lync Phone Edition devices.

We therefore recommend replacing the devices with the actual models. Universal IT is partner of Poly (Polycom/Plantronics) and Yealink and recommends the following (MS Teams certified) devices:

Polycom VVX (Skype for Business)

Yealink T41S (Skype for Business)

Yealink T55A/T56A/T58A (Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams)

It is also possible to use the Skype Client in combination with a Plantronics Headset.
